Although Summer officially begins June 21st, in Florida it spans the entire year. When the temperature climbs, the weatherization on our hair, skin, and nails climbs with it. Here are some ways to protect yourself during the summer months.
When we think of glowing skin, we take it as a sign of health. However, sun accelerates signs of aging and can cause skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. To prevent this, proper protocol should be followed:
Dermalogica has a broad range of skin products that will help protect the skin. All Dermalogica products containing SPF have been sent to independent laboratories to verify their “Broad Spectrum” status. Meaning, it is guaranteed by the FDA to protect your skin from all UV rays. On top of a proper skincare regime, taking cover will help protect your skin. Utilize hats, umbrellas, and shades to provide additional protection.
Between color fading and causing rough texture, the sun can do a number on our hair. On top these facts, did you know the sun is the number one cause of hair thinning? It is crucial we take the necessary steps to protect our hair and scalp. Utilizing products like Redken’s Color Extend will give you UVA/UVB protection for your haircolor. When it comes to preventing hair thinning from the sun, wearing a hat will block the sun from damaging the hair follicles.
While swimming, it is important to give protection from the ocean/pool water. A hot tip is to wet your hair with normal tap water, then apply a deep conditioner through your hair on top of that and leave it in.
Our nails are something that we normally do not think of when it comes to sun protection. However, the sun can cause vertical ridges in your nails, making them appear older. This will already start to occur naturally, so we need to slow the process. As well, the sun, sand, and salt is extremely drying to our cuticles.
